Tomb Raider: Catalyst reportedly pushed to 2028

Amazon Gaming CEO Jeffrey Gattis indicated Tomb Raider: Catalyst may arrive in 2028, after Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis launches globally on Feb. 12, 2027; Crystal Dynamics has not confirmed.

Amazon Gaming CEO Jeffrey Gattis indicated Tomb Raider: Catalyst is likely to arrive in 2028, after Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis reaches a global launch on Feb. 12, 2027. Crystal Dynamics has not provided an official release date for Catalyst.

Gattis discussed Amazon’s development work on the Tomb Raider franchise and noted that Legacy of Atlantis would precede the next mainline title. Those remarks have not been confirmed by the studio developing the series.

Observers cite practical reasons for separating the two releases. Releasing two large Tomb Raider titles close together could split the player base and compress marketing windows for both games. Moving Catalyst into 2028 would allow distinct promotional periods for each title.

Development scope is another factor. Catalyst is reported to be the first all-new mainline Tomb Raider since Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018 and is rumored to be the largest entry in the franchise. Additional development time could provide teams more opportunity to refine gameplay systems, expand content and address technical issues.

Legacy of Atlantis was delayed and now carries a Feb. 12, 2027 global launch date. Until Crystal Dynamics announces a confirmed window for Catalyst, the potential 2028 timing remains unverified. The developer is expected to provide more information on Catalyst’s platforms, scope and launch schedule in future updates.
