Total War: Warhammer 3 patch revises Nagash campaign

Creative Assembly’s patch 9.0.3 adds progression and economy changes to Nagash’s Undead Legions campaign, with further balance updates for units, spells and factions.

Creative Assembly has released patch 9.0.3 for Total War: Warhammer 3. The update changes Nagash’s Undead Legions campaign after player feedback about its economy, Sigil generation, Black Pyramid progression, Necropolises and Mortarch subjugation.

The patch adds earlier economic rewards to Black Pyramid progression, including a 40% upkeep reduction for Nagash. The Tomb Kings, Vampire Coast and Vampire Counts can gain additional upkeep reductions during the early campaign.

Undead Legions armies now receive more battle income based on difficulty. The increase is 20% on easy, with smaller bonuses on higher settings, reaching 5% on hard. The highest difficulty levels receive no additional battle income. Early Sigil generation has also been increased, and Black Pyramid rewards arrive at a faster pace.

Necropolises now have stronger garrisons, combat bonuses for units under siege, lower local recruitment costs and army movement bonuses. Provinces affected by devastation can provide lower factionwide upkeep for the Undead Legions.

Mortarch subjugation objectives have been revised. Many location-specific requirements have been replaced with thematic objectives that can be completed from different locations. Most Mortarchs will submit to Nagash after he becomes more powerful than they are. Players can still pursue them directly to complete the process sooner.

These campaign changes require a new campaign. Existing playthroughs will remain unchanged.

Patch 9.0.3 also changes the Lore of Nehekhara for the Tomb Kings and Undead Legions. Neru’s Incantation now grants immunity to contact effects. Ptra’s Incantation has lower strength but lasts twice as long. Sakhemet’s Incantation deals less base damage and more armor-piercing damage. Usirian’s Incantation costs fewer Winds of Magic but has a longer cooldown. Usekhp’s Incantation applies a Vigor penalty and affects a larger area, but no longer provides its larger melee attack bonus.

Several unit changes affect other factions. Undead Handmaidens have reduced knockback strength. Empire units receive improvements, including a new melee attack animation for the Teutogen Guard that is intended to improve attack connections.

Skaven Verminlords and Skreech Verminking now have a maximum missile resistance bonus of 30%, down from 60%. Stormfiends have larger hitboxes, and the Warp-Doom Magma Cannon costs 150 more gold. Virulent Batteries on Plagueclaw Catapults deal less armor-piercing vortex damage.

Chaos Dwarf Trains move more slowly, while Blessed Field Trebuchets receive the “Disorganized” effect. Several Marauder Horsemen and Bearmen variants, along with Dechala’s Dance of Destruction, have been reduced in strength. Mangler Squigs, Yhetees, Exalted Seeker Chariots, Phoenix Guard and the Khorne Soul Grinder receive improvements.

The update is available now. Creative Assembly is reviewing further changes for a future release and directs players to its bug-reporting forum for additional issues.
