Valve releases Proton 11.0-2 with fixes, new game support

Valve released the stable Proton 11.0-2 update to all users on Linux and SteamOS through Steam, including the Steam Deck. The release targets recent compatibility problems and broadens the set of Windows games that run on these platforms.

Proton is Valve’s compatibility layer that lets Windows games run on Linux. It is distributed through Steam and used by SteamOS devices.

The update fixes issues in several recent high-profile games. According to Valve’s notes, Proton 11.0-2 resolves crashes and other problems that appeared after patches in Marvel Rivals, Diablo IV, Hitman World of Assassination, Forza 6 and Helldivers 2.

The new version adds official support for nine games. Titles now supported by the stable build include AsteroidsHD, Heroes of the Three Kingdoms 7, Konkan Coast Pirate Solutions, Otherworld Legends, Plain Sight, Portal Worlds, SMILE GAME BUILDER, Tetrageddon Games and Warhammer: Dark Omen (Classic).

Seven additional games have been added to Proton Experimental, the testing branch where compatibility changes land before a stable release. The latest entries are Elderfield Demo, The Rabbit’s Scroll, Blair Witch VR, Elisa: The Innkeeper – Prequel, City Car Driving, Korea, IL-2 Series and The Heroic Legend of America: Second Revolutionary War. Work in Proton Experimental is staged for inclusion in a later stable build after testing.

Steam users can enable Proton Experimental for an individual game by opening the game’s Properties, selecting Compatibility, turning on “Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool,” and choosing Proton Experimental. On SteamOS, it can be set as the default system-wide by pressing the Steam button, opening Settings, going to System, enabling Developer Mode and selecting Proton Experimental as the default compatibility tool.
