Warframe Team Mourns Bungie Ending Destiny 2 Support

Warframe Community Director Megan Everett said the studio is not celebrating Bungie’s end of live support for Destiny 2 after June 9’s Monument of Triumph.

Megan Everett, Warframe’s Community Director, said the studio is not celebrating Bungie’s decision to end live support for Destiny 2. Bungie’s Monument of Triumph, released June 9, served as the game’s last major update. Everett called the announcement “heartbreak” and described the development as “earth-shattering.” Digital Extremes created a tribute to Destiny 2 and its community.

Everett described the mood at Digital Extremes as sadness rather than relief. She pointed to personal ties between teams and players across both games and noted that many players returned to Destiny 2 for a final send-off after the announcement. “No one is celebrating the fact that this has happened to Destiny, and its players, and that story,” she said.

Everett said Destiny 2 functioned as a competitor that pushed Warframe to improve. She characterized competition as “healthy” and added that she never expects players to stick to a single title, arguing that other games meet different player needs.

On gameplay differences, Everett noted Warframe is not primarily focused on player-versus-player modes and will not replace Destiny 2 for players seeking PvP experiences. “We tried the PvP thing, and we’re not a PvP game,” she said.

Digital Extremes confirmed it will continue supporting Warframe and released the Jade Shadows: Constellations update on June 17. Everett said the studio will maintain development and community engagement going forward.

Bungie’s decision left many Destiny 2 players disappointed. Everett acknowledged that losing a long-running title and its ongoing narrative affects both fans and developers.
