Webzen Adapts Tyrant of the Defense Game as PROJECT D1
Webzen will adapt the Naver Webtoon Tyrant of the Defense Game into PROJECT D1, a strategy RPG with party command combat, territory management, exploration and diorama pixel art in Unreal Engine 5.
Webzen’s development arm Webzen Crevix has revealed PROJECT D1, a strategy role-playing game based on the 2022 Naver Webtoon Tyrant of the Defense Game. The studio published initial concept art and in-game screenshots alongside details of core systems and the game’s visual approach. Webzen announced its partnership with Naver Webtoon in December.
PROJECT D1 centers on party-based, command-style combat and defensive engagements. Players will manage groups of characters, assign roles and issue commands during battles. The game includes systems for character progression and territory management that follow themes from the source material. The story premise follows a protagonist who clears an impossible game and becomes trapped inside that game world; developers say they will link narrative events to gameplay objectives and progression.
Visually, the team is using a diorama pixel art technique that combines 2D pixel character art with 3D environments rendered in Unreal Engine 5. Released images show character gatherings, combat snapshots and environment concepts for Crossroad, a fortress city that serves as the game’s primary setting. The camera and scene layout emphasize battlefield and city topography.
Webzen Crevix stated it will begin full-scale service preparations and plans to provide more detailed information in the second half of 2026. No release date has been announced.
Tyrant of the Defense Game launched on Naver Webtoon in 2022. PROJECT D1 is the result of the collaboration between Webzen and Naver Webtoon to adapt the webtoon’s defensive strategy and exploration elements into a playable format.
