Why Take-Two CEO Appears in WWE 2K26 but Not GTA 6

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick appears as a playable character in WWE 2K26; he declined to have his likeness included in Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto VI.
When WWE 2K26 launched, players spotted a playable character modeled on Take-Two Interactive chief executive Strauss Zelnick and circulated screenshots online.
People familiar with the project say 2K’s marketing and creative teams handled the inclusion. The WWE series has a history of featuring public figures and non-wrestling personalities as unlockable fighters or managerial characters.
By contrast, Zelnick chose not to participate in Grand Theft Auto VI. People close to the companies described the decision as a matter of brand alignment and personal preference about how his public image should be used.
Those people explained that WWE’s sports-entertainment format typically accepts corporate cameos, while Grand Theft Auto VI is a story-driven, mature-themed game with stricter controls over casting and character inclusion.
The differing outcomes reflect the structure of Take-Two’s labels. 2K teams often work with marketing on visible promotions, while Rockstar maintains tighter oversight of who appears in its titles to protect narrative continuity and the developer’s creative direction.
Analysts note that executives appearing in company-owned games is uncommon and generally occurs in franchises where cameo content is already expected by players.
Neither Take-Two nor Rockstar immediately issued a comment about Zelnick’s appearance in WWE 2K26 or his absence from GTA 6. Public statements from the parent company and its studios have emphasized that each studio manages casting and creative choices independently.
Strauss Zelnick is chief executive of Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of both 2K and Rockstar. The company’s structure places diverse franchises under one corporate umbrella, which can result in different policies and practices across studios.
