WoW Forever beta patch brings major class tuning
Blizzard deployed a large WoW Forever beta patch with wide class balance changes, campfire and audio fixes, an initial cooldown manager for five classes and expanded controller support.
Blizzard released a substantial World of Warcraft Forever beta patch one week after the beta began. The update is live on WoW Forever beta servers and adjusts dozens of spells, talents and racial effects, adds quality-of-life changes, and expands controller and UI options ahead of a planned level cap increase around October 1.
The patch changes campfire behavior so players can gain campfire buffs while performing more resting actions. Using buffs, casting spells and crafting no longer interrupts resting. Visual and audio fixes include an adjusted water splash, revised Human death sounds, restored missing fog and a reduced ooze glare in the Undercity Canal.
An initial version of the cooldown manager is available for Druids, Mages, Priests, Warriors and Warlocks. Blizzard described the tool as “to enhance gameplay by pulling critical information from the buff bar or action bar and placing it in a fully customizable location.” The system does not yet support spell ranks and Blizzard requested player feedback on which spells should be tracked by default.
Controller support was extended with class-specific flyouts for Druids, Hunters, Warlocks, Paladins and Warriors to prevent pet bars from replacing the bottom action bar. New controller options include a compact layout, fixed party targeting for small groups and the ability to swap certain functions between opposite sides of a gamepad.
The beta temporarily offers a cheap respec option: the first talent respec during the beta costs one silver, then becomes much more expensive immediately after use before returning to the low price after an hour. Race adjustments include a Gnome Eureka benefit that now grants a 10% cost discount for Mana, Rage or energy abilities across all classes. Tauren Cultivation now requires a player level for each herb equal to one-fifth of the skill level needed to pick it, capped at 60. Tauren Touch of the Grave no longer breaks crowd control or activates from effects without a damage component; it will trigger on initial damage spells like Shadow Word: Pain but not from periodic ticks.
Class-specific combat changes include multiple tuning adjustments. Druids can now crit with Rejuvenation, Tranquility and Wild Growth; Wrath damage was increased by 50% and Thorns now scales with spell power. Feral Mangle was renamed Primal Bite and associated talents were adjusted. Hunters can no longer tame beasts above their level, Furious Howl’s attack power bonus was reduced by 40%, and Survival’s Strider Kick grants a three-second 30% movement speed buff.
Mages: Arcane Missile checks line of sight only once at channel start to avoid interruptions, Fire received duration increases to Wake of Fire and Hot Streak, and Ignite no longer double-applies damage modifiers. Paladin changes include Retribution Aura scaling with spell power, Holy Strike increasing with every rank and receiving an integrated improved-talent effect, and Holy Power raising Holy Strike critical chance by 15%. Retribution Paladins also receive fewer Vengeance stacks, reduced two-handed damage and larger benefits from Sacred Arbiter with additional mana-cost reduction from Twist of Light. Consecration now applies more consistently.
Priests can crit with Renew and Power Word: Shield can overwrite an existing shield if the target lacks Weakened Soul. Rogue Sap now flags the user for PvP if the target is PvP-flagged. Shamans received damage boosts to mid-rank Lightning Bolt and early Lava Burst ranks and had several totem stacking interactions removed; Restoration Riptide can crit. Warlocks received a Life Tap tooltip update and corrected Sacrifice scaling. Warriors saw a Protection talent swap to smooth progression, Arms players gained double the chance to proc Bloodthrill on main-hand attacks, and Slam’s base cooldown rose to 18 seconds with Improved Slam reducing that cooldown at higher ranks.
Blizzard said it plans to raise the beta level cap to 30 in about two weeks and will add new abilities, talents, profession items and the Excavation Site dungeon with that update. Players are invited to submit feedback on class tuning and the cooldown manager as development continues through the beta.
