Hours later the hero returned to the roster under the name &#8216;Axe?&#8217; as a mechanical construct with visible gears, a large winding key in his back and a hammer in place of his traditional axe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new model features jolting movement animations and a full set of redesigned ability icons to match the construct theme. Soon after the update went live, attempts to play as or target &#8216;Axe?&#8217; caused game crashes that appeared linked to effects interacting with the hero. Previously, <a href=\"https:\/\/goranked.gg\/en\/news\/valve-renames-dota-2-dark-carnival-variable-after-datamine\/\" rel=\"follow\">Valve renamed Dota 2<\/a> \u2018Dark Carnival\u2019 variable after to \u2018Why are you guys reading our variable names?\u2019. A launch trailer released two years ago showed a carnival-style contraption that pulled Axe into a fog of gears and smog; players have connected the trailer imagery and last week\u2019s event rumors to the new &#8216;Axe?&#8217; model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Valve has not confirmed whether the appearance of &#8216;Axe?&#8217; marks the start of an in-game event or whether additional heroes will be altered. No official announcement has been posted with an event date or full scope of content changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Axe has been a long-standing character in Dota 2.
