IEM Cologne Major 2026 set new viewership records during the closing weekend in Cologne. The tournament’s Stage 3 format, production choices by organizer ESL and a large volume of independent co-streams increased live hours watched and peak concurrent audiences.

Every Stage 3 match was played as a best-of-three series rather than treating that format only for elimination or advancement matches. Longer matches increased live broadcast time and gave viewers more opportunity to follow events across multiple maps, contributing to cumulative hours watched as the event progressed.

ESL’s production included detailed observing and replay work, selective use of in-game X-ray during clutch moments, arena lighting, opening ceremonies and a live orchestra. ESL’s official feeds posted strong peaks: the main YouTube channel exceeded 407,000 concurrent viewers at its peak, while the Twitch feed reached more than 341,000 concurrent viewers.

The event’s TikTok approach treated vertical, mobile-first video as a separate broadcast format rather than a repackaged main feed. Platform metrics released after the event show a new Counter-Strike record on TikTok, about 77 percent higher than the previous benchmark.

Independent coverage expanded the event’s distribution. Cologne was available on more than 500 channels, compared with just over 100 channels at the 2019 Major in Katowice. Community casters made up roughly 91 percent of those channels. Independent streams accounted for close to half of total watch time and close to half of the tournament’s peak audience; the largest non-organizer broadcast exceeded 315,000 concurrent viewers.

Several player and regional storylines kept viewers engaged through the bracket. Nikola ‘NiKo’ Kovač reached his 17th Major and won his first Major title, with teammate Ilya ‘m0NESY’ Osipov delivering an MVP-level performance. Finn ‘karrigan’ Andersen, 36, won his second Major after joining Team Falcons. Gabriel ‘FalleN’ Toledo returned to a Major final for the first time since 2016 and led FURIA to its first Major final.

Other runs drove local audience peaks: 9z set a new Spanish-language viewership record for Counter-Strike and met FURIA in an all–South American quarterfinal. Aurora’s Turkish lineup reached the semifinals and produced a Turkish-language peak. In the opening stage, BIG recovered from a 12:0 deficit against NRG to win the deciding map 16:12, a match that produced notable spikes in social engagement and viewership.

Organizers, teams and independent creators provided the components that generated the higher live hours and peak concurrent numbers during Cologne’s final weekend. The tournament combined longer match formats, production adapted to different platforms and a broad network of independent streams across multiple languages and regions.
