Fuse Games, a studio formed by developers who worked on the Burnout series and later racing titles, presented details on Star Wars: Galactic Racer at Summer Game Fest. The studio confirmed the game will include four vehicle classes-podracers, landspeeders, skim speeders and speeder bikes-and is scheduled for release on Oct. 6. Creative Director Kieran Crimmins described the team’s goal as recreating the feel of Star Wars racing while keeping competition fair across distinct vehicle types. Landspeeders are tuned for stability and drifting, skim speeders for top maneuverability, and speeder bikes can use a short \u201ckinetic burst\u201d to cross rough terrain and access shortcuts. Podracers are tuned separately and positioned as the fastest class.<\/p>
Crimmins acknowledged balancing the classes required trade-offs. He noted that pods operate at a higher performance level compared with skimmers and that integrating those differences without breaking race balance presented a technical and design challenge. He added the team aimed to reflect how different craft appear to interact in the films, with smaller, faster vehicles weaving around larger ones and selecting different routes.<\/p>
Fuse\u2019s development team includes veterans from Criterion and the Burnout series. The studio said it plans to bring aggressive, contact-driven moments and cinematic crashes to Galactic Racer, drawing on the team\u2019s prior work on arcade racing titles. Crimmins described the studio\u2019s approach as focused on high-speed racing, close-quarters contact and dramatic collision moments.<\/p>
The game will include a single-player campaign that introduces returning and new characters with distinct racing behaviors. Well-known Star Wars racers, including Sebulba, will appear, and players will have the option to assume AI rivals\u2019 roles in multiplayer modes.<\/p>
On post-launch content, Crimmins said the priority is a complete launch product. He indicated the studio has considered multiple directions for future updates but will respond to player feedback after release. \u201cI wish I had a good answer,\u201d he said when asked about specific post-launch plans.<\/p>
