Hardware insider Kepler_L2 reported that the PlayStation 6’s bill of materials has increased by roughly $200 to about $960 per unit, and that estimate has prompted projections the console could carry a $999 launch price.

The report indicates both the standard disc model and the digital-only model could be priced equally to avoid losses on each unit sold, according to the insider.

Kepler_L2 pointed to earlier estimates that placed the PS6 bill of materials near $760, which would have supported a lower retail launch price around $699. The roughly $200 rise in component and assembly costs would require a substantially higher retail price unless Sony absorbs the added expense.

The insider also reported that the PS6 hardware design has been locked in for months and that production is not expected to be delayed despite higher manufacturing costs. The source said the console remains on track for a Holiday 2027 launch window.

Sony has not released technical specifications, confirmed a release date, or announced pricing for the PS6. The company has indicated it will invest in next-generation hardware but has not commented on the manufacturing-cost figures or possible retail prices.

A bill of materials is an estimate of the component and manufacturing cost for a single unit. Retail prices typically cover those costs plus development, marketing, distribution and warranty expenses, and include a margin for profit.

When manufacturing costs rise before launch, manufacturers may raise the retail price, reduce margins, offset costs with software and services, or delay production until costs fall. Early cost and price figures from insider reports remain provisional until Sony issues official information.
