Players, investors and industry observers are following how the company assigns narrative responsibilities during development.

Dan Houser served as a principal writer and creative executive at Rockstar from its early years and is credited on many Grand Theft Auto titles. He departed the company in March 2020.

Responsibility for the series’ creative vision now rests with other senior executives and with development teams across Rockstar’s studios. Rockstar North has traditionally led mainline Grand Theft Auto projects; multiple Rockstar studios typically collaborate on major releases.

Rockstar has provided limited public details about the next Grand Theft Auto. The company has confirmed a new installment is in active development but has not announced a release date or disclosed how narrative duties have been redistributed.

Grand Theft Auto titles and the ongoing Grand Theft Auto Online service have generated sustained revenue for Rockstar and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive. The franchise has shaped player expectations for open-world scale, technical polish and narrative tone.

Rockstar’s corporate structure and ownership by Take-Two remain unchanged, and founding members remaining at the company continue to participate in oversight. Production of major titles is carried out across multiple studios over several years, with writing, design and engineering tasks divided among teams.

Observers will note future statements from Rockstar and any credits or staffing details released as indicators of how the company is handling writing, design and production for the next Grand Theft Auto.

GTA 6 is Rockstar Games’ first major project in development since co-founder Dan Houser left the company in March 2020.

[12

post-1991","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-latest

GTA 6: Rockstar's First Major Test Since Dan Houser Left

<meta name="description" content="GTA 6 is Rockstar's first major project since co-founder Dan Houser left in 2020.
