Rockstar released an update to GTA Online this week that introduces the Kortz Center Heist while also changing heist economics across the game. The new mission requires significant in-game spending to access and comes with altered rewards for repeat plays and other high-value heists.<\/p>
To unlock the Kortz Center Heist players must buy an Art Studio for $4.7 million if they already own a mansion. Players without a mansion face an additional minimum cost of $11.5 million, taking the total to about $16.2 million. Rockstar\u2019s patch notes describe the heist as profitable on first completion; players report a first-week payout of roughly $2 million. Repeat runs drop to about $400,000, with a $100,000 setup fee. Rockstar explains the reduced repeat payouts by saying stolen goods have “saturated the market,” which has led to lower buyer offers. Players may also choose to keep stolen artworks for in-game display instead of selling them.<\/p>
The update also lowers rewards and adjusts loot odds in several established heists, including Cayo Perico, the Diamond Casino and Doomsday missions. Data extracted from the game files show weightings have shifted so lower-value items appear more often and top-tier items appear less frequently. In Cayo Perico, Pink Diamonds fell from a roughly 10% chance to about 2%. Bearer Bonds dropped from about 15% to 8% and Pearl Necklaces from 15% to 10%. Lower-value loot such as Tequila now appears in about 80% of runs, up from around 60%, and its payout was reduced from about $630,000 to $400,000.<\/p>
Players who previously used heist runs to fund properties and businesses report the changes make it harder to cover setup costs through gameplay alone. Community reaction on social platforms has been critical. GTA Online content creator Tylarius questioned the changes directly, posting: “Rockstar, what are you doing? I don’t understand this. Why are you being so mean?” Comment threads on the Kortz Center trailer and Rockstar\u2019s announcement contain complaints that the update increases grind and penalizes returning players. Some users suggested the company reduced other heist payouts to push players toward the new mission. Others warned the higher upfront costs may prompt purchases of Shark Cards, the game’s real-money currency, to afford new content. Several players also reported reconsidering plans to run the new heist with friends because of the required investment.<\/p>
Heists have been a primary income source for many GTA Online players, funding in-game businesses, property purchases and ongoing content.
