The research ends with an encounter that awards players a Mewtwo with maxed stats and a Special Background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All Trainers worldwide can access the Timed Research in the game at no cost. The reward also unlocks the third Mega Level for Mega Mewtwo Y, which increases its Mega potential in formats where Mega Evolutions are allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mewtwo is available with moves suited to multiple roles. Psystrike and Shadow Ball support its Psychic-type attack role, while Ice Beam, Flamethrower and Thunderbolt offer coverage options for raids and player-versus-player battles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A separate distribution took place for attendees at a Times Square event on July 9, 2026. Trainers who received a Mewtwo at that event obtained a different version with distinct stats and rewards. A Times Square Background Mewtwo will be distributed at a later date. The anniversary Timed Research is independent from in-person giveaways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The anniversary event is part of a wider program of in-game events and community meetups organized to mark 10 years of play.
