Marvel’s Wolverine sold 2.4 million copies in its first 50 days, according to Sony’s latest financial report. The figure places the game among Insomniac Games’ slowest starts since the studio joined PlayStation.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sold 2.5 million copies in its first 24 hours and reached 5 million sales in 11 days. The original Marvel’s Spider-Man sold 3.3 million copies in three days and 9 million in 80 days.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales, released for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, sold 4.1 million copies across both consoles by the end of 2020. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the only other Insomniac game released under Sony to record a slower start, with 1.1 million copies sold in its first 38 days.

Wolverine also trails several other major PlayStation releases in Sony’s sales data. Ghost of Tsushima sold 2.4 million copies in three days. Astro Bot sold 1.5 million copies in 58 days, while Returnal sold 560,000 copies in 80 days.

Marvel’s Wolverine has a Metacritic score of 77. Reviews and player feedback criticized the game’s frequent gameplay guidance, including sections that require limited player input. The game’s violence and visuals received praise, while its combat and pacing drew criticism.

Alinea Analytics reported that Wolverine is Sony’s best-selling first-party release of 2026 so far. The comparison includes releases such as the action game Saros and Bungie’s Marathon.

The game is based on a licensed Marvel property. Documents leaked during the 2023 ransomware attack on Insomniac reportedly indicated that Sony holds exclusive video-game rights to the X-Men through 2035. The documents also reportedly described payments to Marvel ranging from 9% to 18% of net digital revenue, with higher shares for physical sales and downloadable content.

Reports based on the leaked documents said the agreement may allow Marvel to end the deal if a game fails to sell 6 million copies in its first year. Sony’s report places Wolverine at 2.4 million copies after 50 days, leaving the game with the rest of its first year to reach that figure.
