Xbox Release of Avatar Legends Delayed Hours Before Launch

Gameplay Group International delayed the Xbox Series X|S release of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game hours before its July 23 launch, citing an unforeseen backend feature and moving it to Sept. 3, 2026.

Gameplay Group International delayed the Xbox Series X|S release of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game hours before its planned July 23 launch, moving the Xbox date to Sept. 3, 2026. Existing Xbox pre-orders will remain active and will not be cancelled, the developer confirmed.

The game launched on July 23 for PlayStation 5, PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch. The developer posted the Xbox postponement to the game’s official X account early on launch day, giving Xbox players only hours’ notice that the platform would be excluded from the initial rollout.

Gameplay Group International did not provide technical details about the issue. The developer attributed the delay to “unforeseen circumstances on a backend feature” and said the Xbox version will be held back to resolve the problem. No timetable for further updates was provided.

Nintendo Switch players received the Standard Edition at launch. Crossplay and several non-English language options were not available at release; the developer is working to add those features but did not give a firm timeline. A dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 version is planned for later this year.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a hand-drawn one-on-one fighter priced at $29.99. The launch roster includes 12 characters drawn from Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. The developer has outlined Year One downloadable content that will add five additional fighters after launch.

The revised Sept. 3 Xbox release now coincides with the launch of The Blood of Dawnwalker, creating a more crowded release window than the original July date. Interest in the title increased after a closed beta in early July and an appearance at EVO 2026.

The developer reiterated that other platform releases are proceeding as scheduled and that current Xbox pre-orders will be preserved.
