York Scouts launch pixel game to fund World Scout trip
Two 13-year-old Scouts from York released Sofie Scout — Road to Poland, a pixel-style game at £2.99 to raise £3,600 each for the 2027 World Scout Jamboree in Gdansk.
Two 13-year-old Scouts from York, Juno and Ellie, created a pixel-style game called Sofie Scout — Road to Poland to raise funds to attend the 2027 World Scout Jamboree in Gdansk. The title is available now on iOS, Android, PC and Mac and is priced at £2.99; each sale is directed to their fundraiser.
In the game the player controls Sofie, who has missed the Jamboree bus and must run across a series of European cities to reach Gdansk before the opening ceremony. Levels include London, Bruges, Antwerp, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Berlin, all presented in a handmade pixel aesthetic.
Juno and Ellie devised the concept, produced most of the artwork and repeatedly tested the gameplay. Their parents assisted with publishing the game across platforms.
Each Scout needs £3,600 to cover travel and participation for the 2027 event, giving a combined project target of £7,200. The pair say that after they reach their personal targets, additional proceeds will fund further Sofie Scout games rather than ending the fundraising effort.
The World Scout Jamboree is an international gathering of Scouts for cultural exchange, activities and community projects. The 2027 edition is scheduled to take place in Gdansk, and Juno and Ellie are raising money so they can attend in person.
