Shyvana Rework 2026 — New Abilities, Best Build, Skins, and Meta Impact
Shyvana won the community VGU vote, got delayed out of 2025, and finally landed in League of Legends patch 26.6 on March 18, 2026. Riot worked directly with Shyvana mains during development — including Shivadi, the rank 1 Shyvana on NA — which shows in how the new kit preserved her core identity while fixing everything that felt outdated. If you want to try the rework without risking LP on your main, Goranked offers LoL accounts and boosting service.

Every New Ability
P — Scalemail
Takedowns on enemy champions, large monsters, and cannon minions grant permanent Scalemail stacks. Each stack gives 0.5 armor and 0.35 magic resist. Assists count too — this was added during PBE after community feedback.
Old Shyvana got +5 armor and MR per dragon kill, which meant the passive was essentially useless until 20 minutes and completely dependent on your team securing drakes. New Scalemail stacks from the first clear. Every large camp, every cannon, every kill or assist builds you up. No dragon dependency, no waiting around.
Q — Emberstrike
Passive: Basic attacks deal bonus max health magic damage on-hit, scaling with bonus AD and AP.
Active: Empowers next attack to cleave the target and the surrounding area for physical damage. Can be recast once within 4 seconds — the recast goes off instantly if you weave an auto between casts. Auto attacks also reduce Q cooldown by 1.25 seconds, so in extended fights, Q uptime is significant.
Dragon Form: Gains a third recast, dealing true damage with a 165% AD ratio. This is the execute button — three hits in rapid succession, with the last one ignoring resistances entirely.
W — Inferno Aegis
Shyvana gains a shield for 2.5 seconds that scales with 5% of max health and increases by 30% for every nearby enemy champion. While shielded, she gets 25% movement speed, increasing to 43.75% when moving toward visible enemies. After 1 second, or when the shield expires, the area around her detonates for magic damage.
Dragon Form: If the explosion hits an enemy champion, Shyvana heals — scaling from 100-250 base up to 200-500 based on missing health, plus AD and AP ratios. This is her sustain tool in extended teamfights.
The timing matters. Shield is stronger the more enemies are nearby, so if you don't need the movement speed to close the gap, hold it until you're already in the middle of the fight.
E — Molten Burst
A fireball that explodes at the target location, dealing magic damage and slowing enemies by 80% for 0.75 seconds. Clean skillshot with actual utility — the main purpose is sticking onto targets, not dealing damage.
Dragon Form: The fireball is larger, passes through enemies, and leaves a trail of fire on the ground for 2 seconds that deals damage per second. Upon hitting a champion or large monster — or reaching max range — it triggers an explosion in a circle that also scorches the ground. Slow still applies. This is your teamfight zoning and AOE tool.
One key difference from old Shyvana's E: the new version no longer passes through minions in human form. If you're playing against Shyvana, stand behind your wave to block the slow.
R — Dragon's Descent
Passive: Shyvana generates Dragon Fury by hitting enemies with attacks and abilities. Fury generation is increased while in Dragon Form. Passively generates Fury while dead, which compensates for the slightly slower active generation compared to old Shyvana. Every point of Ultimate Ability Haste gives +0.01 Fury per second.
Active: Shyvana transforms, becomes unstoppable during the dash, and fears enemies on contact for 0.75 seconds. While transformed, she gains bonus health scaling with Scalemail stacks, increased attack range, and all abilities become empowered. The dash range is significantly longer than the old version — she can go over every wall in the game now.
The biggest upgrade from old Shyvana: the ult can no longer be interrupted. No more Poppy W or Veigar E canceling the transformation mid-dash.
Old Shyvana vs New Shyvana
The short version: old Shyvana was a stat-check champion who farmed until she could run at you. New Shyvana still farms and scales, but now has actual ability sequencing, a defensive tool in W, and a transformation that genuinely changes how fights play out. The Q recast mechanic alone adds more decision-making than the entire old kit combined.

Key Combos
Auto-weaving is central to the new kit — Q recast triggers instantly after an auto, so every combo is built around it.
Basic skirmish combo (human form, at range): W → E → Auto → Q → Auto → Q
Use W first for the movement speed to close the gap, then E for the slow once you're in range. After the slow lands, auto into Q into auto into Q for max DPS. Don't use E at max range — the closer you are, the easier it is to land the slow.
Max DPS combo (human form, already on top of target): Auto → Q → E → Auto → Q
If you're already close enough that you don't need the E for approach, weave it between Q casts instead. This is more serious damage because you're not wasting the movement speed from W.
Dragon Form combo: Auto → Q → Auto → Q → E → Auto → Q
One extra Q charge in Dragon Form means one extra auto to weave in. Save E toward the end of the combo if the enemy has no dash — the slow keeps them in range for the final Q3 true damage proc. Use E earlier if they have mobility.
Q3 true damage for objective steal: The third Q in Dragon Form deals true damage with a 165% AD ratio — one of the highest objective-securing tools in LoL. Combo Q3 with Smite when contesting Dragon or Baron. If the enemy jungler is lurking for a steal, pre-using Q1 on a different target before diving in means you only need Auto → Q → Auto → Q to reach the true damage proc on the priority target.
Best Build And Runes
Reworked Shyvana has three viable build directions, but the numbers heavily favor AD bruiser. The Q3 true damage, W shield scaling, and Q cooldown reduction off autos all point in the same direction — build AD, build health, build attack speed.
AD Bruiser (Recommended)
AD bruiser is the strongest direction for reworked Shyvana in League of Legends. The Q3 true damage has a 165% AD ratio versus just 37.5% AP, the W shield scales with max health, and Q cooldown resets off auto attacks — all of which reward building attack speed and AD over ability power.
Core items:
Experimental Hexplate (first item) — attack speed, health, AD, and 30 ultimate ability haste. The ability haste directly increases Fury generation rate, bumping base 0.5 Fury/sec up to 0.95 with Hexplate completed. The passive also gives bonus movement speed and attack speed when you use R, which amplifies every dive.
Second item options:
Spear of Shojin — into tankier comps, better in extended fights
Trinity Force — into squishier comps, stronger upfront burst
Stridebreaker — into mobile comps where sticking power is the priority
Late game situational: Sundered Sky, Death's Dance, Sterak's Gage, Overlord's Bloodmail, Maw of Malmortius
AP Hybrid (Situational)
Not as strong as an AD bruiser, but viable if you prefer the playstyle. E has 70% AP ratio in human form and 87.5% in Dragon Form, and the fire trail AOE in teamfights hits harder with AP.
Build path: Dusk and Dawn → Liandry's Torment → Riftmaker
Runes
Primary — Precision:
Conqueror — extended fights are where Shyvana thrives. Conqueror provides the most value.
Triumph, Alacrity, Last Stand
Secondary — Inspiration:
Free boots + Cosmic Insight — skipping boots lets you rush Hexplate faster, which is the biggest early power spike for the new Shyvana LoL rework
All Updated Skins
No new skin at launch. All 8 existing skins get full visual overhauls — new models, new animations, new splash art. Dragon Form models are the biggest visual upgrade across the board.
Ice Drake Shyvana's Dragon Form in particular looks completely different from the original — each skin now has a distinct dragon design that matches its theme rather than the generic upscaled lizard model from old Shyvana. A limited-time Leg Day Bundle is also available at launch.

Where She Fits In The Meta
Shyvana is still a farming jungler — that identity hasn't changed. The Scalemail passive actually rewards efficient farming more than before, since every large camp gives permanent stats. First clear is achievable in 2:32, which even leaves time to gank before Scuttle Crab spawns.
Early gank threat is meaningfully better now. W gives 43.75% movement speed toward enemies, and E applies a slow, which old Shyvana never had before 6. She can look for ganks after completing a full clear instead of being forced to just keep farming. That said, hard farming to 6 is still the priority — Dragon's Descent going over every wall in the game opens up flank routes that make her post-6 gank threat significantly stronger than before.
In the mid and late game, she excels in smaller skirmishes rather than AOE teamfights. When R is available, she can out-duel most champions in the game — play around it, force fights when it's up, avoid committing to extended fights without it.
For ranked, she's expected to settle around the B+ to A- tier once the meta figures out optimal builds. Top lane is also viable as a counter-pick into melee matchups, where she can stack Scalemail off minions and trade with Q recasts — ranged matchups are still rough.
FAQs
When did the Shyvana rework release?
The Shyvana VGU launched with League of Legends patch 26.6 on March 18, 2026.
What is the best build for reworked Shyvana?
AD bruiser is the strongest direction — Experimental Hexplate first, then Spear of Shojin or Trinity Force, depending on the enemy comp. Conqueror with Inspiration secondary is the recommended rune page.
Is Shyvana jungle or top lane after the rework?
Jungle is her primary role. The Scalemail passive stacks off large monsters, and her pre-6 laning is still weak against ranged champions. Top lane works as a counter-pick into melee matchups, but jungle is where she performs best.
Can Shyvana's new ult be interrupted?
No. Shyvana is completely unstoppable during Dragon's Descent, which is a major upgrade from the old version that could be knocked out of by Poppy W, Veigar E, and similar abilities.
Does Shyvana get a new skin with the rework?
No new skin at launch. All 8 existing skins receive full visual overhauls with new models, animations, and splash art. A limited-time Leg Day Bundle is available.
What happened to old Shyvana's passive?
The old passive gave +5 armor and magic resist per dragon kill — completely dependent on your team securing drakes. The new Scalemail passive stacks from large jungle camps, cannon minions, and champion takedowns, making it relevant from level 1 regardless of dragon control.
