Battlefield 6 Top Gun update adds jets, Wake Island remake

Battlefield 6’s Top Gun update arrives Aug. 18 with two air-focused modes, a naval Wake Island remake, new two-seat jets, a silenced sniper and Portal editor upgrades.

Battlefield Studios and Electronic Arts will release the Top Gun update for Battlefield 6 on August 18 as part of Season 4. The update adds two aircraft-focused game modes, a naval-focused remake of Wake Island, new two-seat fighter jets, a silenced sniper rifle and improvements to controls and the Portal editor.

The Wake Island redesign centers naval combat. Teams spawn aboard aircraft carriers that act as their bases. Players fight over sea lanes and island approaches rather than the mixed land, sea and air layout of earlier versions of the map.

Carrier Strike requires squads to capture sites across Wake Island to disable enemy carriers, then spawn vehicles, board opposing carriers and destroy them from within. Fighter Sweep is a REDSEC Gauntlet course that sends pilots through a dogfight-oriented track where aerial kills, supply-crate destruction and objective completion score points.

Two new two-seat jets join the vehicle roster: the F/81F Super Spectre and the F-74A Seacat. Both aircraft support a pilot and a rear gunner who can coordinate targeting and strafing runs. The update adds the Interdictor sniper rifle, equipped with a silencer, for quieter long-range engagements.

A temporary high-tier loot location will appear in Fort Lyndon: the crashed carrier USS Grant. The site will offer richer loot than surrounding areas for the first two weeks after the update goes live.

Quality-of-life changes target flying and combat feedback. An optional ADS Dispersion Crosshair shows weapon spread while aiming down sights. An Airplane Control Assist option aims to help players less familiar with aircraft handling. Portal mode receives an updated Advanced Editor with new terrain tools and baked lighting options to expand custom map-building capabilities.

The studios highlighted the new modes, vehicles, USS Grant loot hotspot and editor upgrades as the main features for Season 4. The update becomes available on supported platforms on August 18.
