Blizzard: no fresh Season of Discovery server for WoW Classic - news.goranked

Blizzard confirmed it will not launch a fresh Season of Discovery server for WoW Classic, saying a new server would require multiple teams and divert Classic staff.

Blizzard confirmed it will not open a fresh Season of Discovery (SoD) server for WoW Classic. The company says launching a new server would involve multiple teams and would draw staff away from other Classic work.

Players found a new WoW Classic build labeled “1.15.9.68185” on June 27, which prompted speculation that an official fresh SoD server was coming. That interest rose while a community-run “Fake Fresh” event on the Wild Growth server recreated the experience of a brand-new SoD realm. Player counts on Wild Growth increased to roughly 4,600 after the event began, about double earlier levels.

WoW Classic senior designer Josh Greenfield responded to a player concern and wrote that Blizzard has no plans for an official fresh SoD server. He wrote:

There will be no fresh SoD. “Just open a new server” is not as trivial as most people think it is. It requires many teams and a large portion of the Classic team to make that happen. Then there’s an ongoing effort to manage each phase as it rolls out. With other things we have going on, that’s a distraction we can’t afford… it would be irresponsible for us to split our time on this right now.

Season of Discovery is a variant of WoW Classic that introduces new talents, dungeons, raids and altered items, along with talent combinations not available in standard Classic play. Blizzard ended active development on SoD in June 2025, and community members have continued to run events and revisits of the mode.

Organizers are continuing Fake Fresh events on North American and European servers. Because Blizzard has confirmed there will be no official fresh start at this time, players running in those community events will not have their progress overwritten by a company-launched reset.
