Player streams WoW Classic to phone via GeForce Now
A Reddit user streamed World of Warcraft Classic to a phone using Nvidia GeForce Now, controlling the PC client with on-screen thumbsticks and ability buttons; comments were mixed.
Reddit account u/JoahJorth recently posted video and screenshots showing World of Warcraft Classic running on a smartphone through Nvidia’s GeForce Now cloud-streaming service. The content shows the PC client relayed to a mobile display and controlled with on-screen inputs.
The player used GeForce Now’s default gamepad overlay. The layout includes two virtual thumbsticks for movement, clusters of ability buttons arranged in rotatable groups of four, a minimap and a chat window. The post notes the overlay cannot be customized.
The streamer wrote they were “really just playing around to see if it was possible” and that the experiment was “much more fun than I expected.” The post says there is noticeable input lag while screen-recording, and that with a stable internet connection gameplay felt smooth.
Commenters on the Reddit thread expressed mixed reactions. One user wrote, “I find this completely disgusting yet equally impressive at the same time.” Another wrote the setup “looks like one of those fake mobile ads.” Several replies praised the technical workaround.
World of Warcraft’s main title has remained a PC game since launch; Blizzard has not released a native mobile version of the core MMORPG. The company has published mobile titles tied to the franchise, including Hearthstone and Warcraft Rumble. Other long-running online RPGs are available on handheld devices, and a mobile edition of Final Fantasy XIV is under development.
The post demonstrates a cloud-streaming method for running a PC client on a phone. Comments in the thread noted limits of touch controls and latency when software is not designed for touchscreen input.
