Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 & 2 get PS4–PS5 cross‑gen play
Activision confirmed Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2 support cross‑generation multiplayer between PS4 and PS5; cross‑platform play with PS3, Xbox and PC is not available.
Activision confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 support cross‑generation multiplayer between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The PlayStation versions of both titles appeared without prior announcement earlier this month.
An official Call of Duty account on Twitter clarified that players on PS4 and PS5 share the same multiplayer matchmaking pool. Users on PlayStation 3, Xbox platforms and PC are not included in that shared online environment.
Season Pass holders are not placed in separate lobbies. Activision confirmed owners of the Season Pass can matchmake with players who only bought the base games, preventing fragmentation of online matches based on add‑on ownership.
PlayStation Plus members currently see reduced prices for the re‑releases. Each game is listed at $19.99 for PS Plus subscribers and a Season Pass covering both games is priced at $9.89. Those prices increase on August 6 to $39.99 per game and $19.99 for the Season Pass.
The PS4 and PS5 releases include few technical changes. Activision and the developer did not add higher resolution options, field‑of‑view sliders, or other minor quality‑of‑life features to the new PlayStation builds.
Both titles are being offered as re‑releases for current PlayStation systems rather than full remasters. The Season Pass available in the PlayStation storefront covers content for both Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2.
The confirmed cross‑generation matchmaking keeps PS4 and PS5 players in the same online player pool for multiplayer sessions.
