Call of Duty film in development set in Modern Warfare

Amazon MGM Studios and Activision are developing a live-action Call of Duty feature film set in the rebooted Modern Warfare universe, produced by Nick van Dyk and Stacey Sher.
Amazon MGM Studios and Activision are developing a live-action Call of Duty feature film set in the rebooted Modern Warfare universe. The project was confirmed over the weekend, with Amazon MGM slated to handle theatrical distribution and Activision Blizzard listed as a producing partner. Producers Nick van Dyk and Stacey Sher will lead the film through their production banner alongside Activision’s film and television division.
No director, cast, screenwriter, release date or budget have been announced. The production details released so far name van Dyk and Sher as lead producers but give no further creative or scheduling specifics.
Reports had suggested the project was paused earlier; the studio confirmation establishes a production home and formal participation by Activision’s entertainment arm.
The film will be set in the continuity of the rebooted Modern Warfare trilogy rather than other Call of Duty timelines such as Black Ops or Advanced Warfare. The Modern Warfare reboot began with Modern Warfare in 2019 and continued through Modern Warfare II and III; those entries emphasized cinematic presentation and a grounded tone.
Infinity Ward is developing Modern Warfare 4 with a projected release in late 2026, keeping the Modern Warfare storyline in public view.
The Call of Duty franchise has sold more than 400 million copies across its entries since 2003. Further particulars about the film — including writers, director, cast, production timeline and budget — have not been disclosed. Activision’s film and television division and Amazon MGM are expected to announce more details as development progresses.
Previously, we reported that Activision confirmed Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2 support cross‑generation multiplayer between PS4 and PS5.
