CD Projekt: The Witcher 4 already running on PC, PS5, Xbox
CD Projekt Red says The Witcher 4 is running and playable on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in its development environment; the studio is testing builds on all platforms and targets 2028.
CD Projekt Red reports that The Witcher 4 is running and currently playable on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X inside the studio’s development environment. The studio says the project is being developed with multi-platform support from an early stage.
Co-CEO Michal Nowakowski confirmed developers can launch the game on each platform during work on current builds. He stated: “You come to the studio, you launch Witcher 4 right now. You can launch it on PC. You can launch it on PS5. You can launch it on Xbox Series X, and it’s going to run.”
The company has not announced a firm release date. It is targeting 2028 for the next Witcher entry, and cautioned that the window is wide and may change as development and cross-platform testing continue.
CD Projekt Red framed the multi-platform approach as a response to performance and testing problems at the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020. That earlier project followed a PC-first workflow that prioritized high-end PC visuals and delayed console optimization, which led to console performance issues at launch. The publisher subsequently issued multiple patches and updates for that title.
Additional details confirm the title is being validated on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X concurrently. The studio intends to run and test builds across those systems throughout development to identify platform-specific issues earlier in the cycle.
The company did not provide technical specifications, confirmed supported peripherals or say whether versions for other hardware are planned. The 2028 target remains the only public timeline and will depend on ongoing development and platform testing.
