Dave Bautista in talks to replace Kratos actor on Prime Video

Dave Bautista is in active discussions to take over the role of Kratos in Prime Video’s God of War series after Ryan Hurst suffered a torn bicep on set. No contract has been signed and talks are described as ongoing.

Production paused in late June following Hurst’s injury. Four episodes that had already been filmed will be reshot with the new actor. Producers expect principal photography to restart in mid-October once casting is finalised. There has been no public change to the series release timetable.

Bautista, 57, is being considered for his physical stature and his screen work in action and dramatic projects. His recent credits include roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and Dune, and he has previously discussed taking on more dramatic parts.

The television series adapts the 2018 and 2023 God of War games and focuses on the relationship between Kratos and his son Atreus. The role calls for an actor able to perform fight sequences and deliver emotional scenes central to that storyline.

Other main cast members are expected to remain. Mandy Patinkin is cast as Odin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Ed Skrein as Baldur and Alastair Duncan will return as Mimir. Producers do not plan to recast those roles.

Prime Video and the production companies have not released a premiere date. Production sources describe casting discussions as active and say reshoots will follow once a lead is confirmed.
