Destiny 2 Tops Marathon on Steam by More Than 10x
Despite Bungie pausing future updates, Destiny 2 draws about 47,000 concurrent Steam players versus Marathon’s roughly 2,800.
Bungie’s Destiny 2 is drawing about 47,000 concurrent players on Steam, compared with Marathon’s roughly 2,800 concurrent players at the time of reporting. Bungie has paused future content updates for Destiny 2.
Steam tracking sites show Destiny 2 rose above 50,000 daily following its final update, Moment of Triumph, released June 9. That day the game briefly exceeded 167,000 concurrent players before settling; since then it has averaged around 47,000 concurrent users on Steam. Marathon, which launched in early 2026, reached just over 40,000 concurrent players after its Season 2 release on June 2 but has generally trended lower and sat near 2,800 at the time of reporting.
At launch, Marathon posted all-time peaks of 77,358 and 88,337 concurrent users on different tracking services. Destiny 2’s Steam launch in 2019 recorded peaks between roughly 292,000 and 316,000 concurrent players. Another Bungie title, Highguard, showed divergent launch-day numbers across trackers, with one reporting just over 97,000 and another about 13,115.
The reported figures cover only concurrent players on Steam and do not include consoles or other PC storefronts. Marathon has a new season planned for September. Destiny 2 will not receive further content updates after Moment of Triumph.
