God of War: Laufey Delayed to May 2027
Santa Monica Studio has delayed God of War: Laufey from Feb. 16 to May 20, 2027, giving the PlayStation 5 game more time for finishing work.
Santa Monica Studio has delayed God of War: Laufey by just over three months. The game will now launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on May 20, 2027, and will be available on physical disc.
The studio announced the delay in a social media statement on Nov. 4. It thanked fans for their response since the game was revealed in June and wrote that the extra time would allow it to add finishing touches and push the game “to its fullest potential.”
Santa Monica Studio did not provide a more specific reason for the delay. The developer said it would share more information about the game in the future.
God of War: Laufey stars Faye, the wife of Kratos. Her death sets up the story of 2018’s God of War. In the new game, Faye wakes up in the Everywhen, a place where gods from different mythologies compete for power. She then tries to protect Kratos and Atreus from a threat linked to plans she made before her death.
Sony revealed the game during a State of Play presentation in June, showing 20 minutes of gameplay. Santa Monica Studio announced its original Feb. 16, 2027, release date at San Diego Comic-Con in July.
During the same Comic-Con panel, the studio confirmed that the next main God of War game will return to Kratos and continue the story after the events of Laufey.
