GTA 6 Release Date: Nov. 19, 2026, Console Launch Details
GTA 6 launches Nov. 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at local midnight. A PC version is expected later, likely by the end of 2027.
Rockstar Games will release Grand Theft Auto 6 on Thursday, November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game will become available at midnight local time in each time zone. Pre-orders are open on console stores and Rockstar confirmed the staggered local-midnight rollout.
Two official trailers and earlier leaked footage framed the setting and main characters. The first official trailer, released in late 2023 following an unauthorized breach of development footage, confirmed a return to Vice City. A subsequent trailer introduced the two lead characters, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, and described their story as a crime partnership across the state of Leonida. A broader gameplay reveal aired on Netflix in August 2026 and showed in-game sequences to a wide audience.
Take-Two Interactive has left the PC release date unspecified. At a technology and media conference, Chief Executive Strauss Zelnick indicated, “Rockstar has an approach to platforms which we’ve seen before, and they will make more announcements in due time.” Reports from former staff have suggested a PC version could arrive before the end of Take-Two’s fiscal year in April 2027, but those claims are not verified and Rockstar has not published a PC launch date.
Pricing for the console launch is set at $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. The Ultimate Edition includes a large set of digital bonuses: era-styled vehicles, exclusive weapon variants, outfits and tattoos, a garage with a weapon locker, and permanent in-game destinations such as custom shops and a unisex salon. Rockstar describes some locations and services as exclusive to the Ultimate Edition.
Take-Two has confirmed that GTA 6 will not appear on Game Pass at launch. Some elements in trailer footage, including controller imagery, have prompted speculation about a close marketing relationship with PlayStation, but no formal exclusivity agreement has been announced.
Development on GTA 6 spanned several years. Rockstar and Take-Two accelerated public messaging after leaks and the official reveals. A former Rockstar artist reported spending five years on the project before leaving in 2023. Budget estimates circulating in the industry are unconfirmed.
Gameplay footage, official and leaked, shows a modernized Vice City with expanded geography. The game features cars and boats, public-transport options for fast travel, and movement mechanics such as cover, crouch and crawl. Community recreations of leaked map sections in previous-generation engines suggest a larger world than past entries, though those reconstructions are not definitive representations of the final game. Company statements and industry reports indicate plans for post-launch updates and user-generated content tools, and some reporting has referenced a wider creator ecosystem for in-game modifications; those plans remain subject to official confirmation.
On artificial intelligence, Take-Two and Rockstar have pushed back against the idea that generative AI will produce core game content. Zelnick warned that a title like GTA is “built from the ground up, building by building, street by street,” and argued generative AI will not replace the studio’s creative teams. Dan Houser, a co-founder of Rockstar, observed in public comments that human creativity remains central and criticized reliance on current AI models.
Voice cast, soundtrack and cameo involvement have not been finalized. Trailer material introduced supporting characters such as conspiracy figure Cal Hampton and club figure Boobie Ike. Rockstar has said it will release more details on cast and soundtrack closer to launch.
With the console release date confirmed and pre-orders active, attention is on an official PC date, final cast and soundtrack credits, and the planned schedule of post-launch content.
