GTA V source code and early GTA VI assets leak online
A large collection of Grand Theft Auto V source code and early Grand Theft Auto VI development files has circulated across public and private platforms, origin unconfirmed.
A large collection of Grand Theft Auto V source code and early Grand Theft Auto VI development files has appeared on multiple public and private platforms in recent days. Copies are circulating on file-hosting services, discussion forums, peer-to-peer channels and archive sites.
Security analysts who examined portions of the material say it appears to include decompiled and original source files for GTA V as well as early art, 3D models and design documents attributed to GTA VI. The origin of the data has not been confirmed by the companies involved.
Representatives for Rockstar Games and its parent company Take-Two Interactive did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Source code routinely contains authentication routines, configuration files and version histories that are not intended for public release. Early assets and design documents can reveal planned locations, character concepts and gameplay mechanics that studios typically keep confidential.
Legal and technical experts warn that downloading or redistributing copyrighted source code and proprietary assets can carry legal risk. Rights holders may issue takedown notices and pursue civil or criminal investigations if the files were obtained through unauthorized access.
Parts of the material could be used by modders, cheat authors and data miners to create modifications or to circumvent protections in existing game installations.
Rockstar has addressed unauthorized disclosures in the past by issuing takedown notices and updating security measures. Companies that own game assets often coordinate with hosting platforms and law enforcement during large-scale incidents.
Players and online communities have shared screenshots and excerpts claiming to show internal code and concept art, but independent verification of a complete archive is not available. Observers caution that partial or altered files can circulate alongside legitimate material, complicating efforts to assess the archive’s scope.
Authorities and rights holders may pursue takedowns and inquiries in the coming days. Until Rockstar or Take-Two confirm the contents and source of the leak, the full extent of exposed development materials remains unverified.
