LEGO Skylines: Paradox and Iceflake unveil city builder

Paradox, Iceflake and the LEGO Group revealed LEGO Skylines at Gamescom Opening Night Live; developers say the game will focus on deep simulation and LEGO customization.

Paradox Interactive, Iceflake Studios and the LEGO Group revealed LEGO Skylines during Gamescom Opening Night Live. The game places players in charge of a fully LEGO-styled world, starting from a single plot and house and expanding into a player-shaped city.

Gameplay begins with infrastructure: roads, electricity, food and water. Players then add homes, parks, shops, hospitals, museums and sports arenas as the city grows. Iceflake describes the experience as allowing different creative directions, from dense urban cores to quiet seaside towns, using customizable plots, buildings and decorative LEGO elements.

Iceflake Studios draws on its background in management and simulation titles for the project. Lasse Liljedahl, co-founder and game director at Iceflake, described combining childhood experience with building LEGO sets and the studio’s simulation work to produce a more personal city-building experience.

Fredrik Löving of the LEGO Group stated the objective was not simply to create a LEGO-themed city builder but to deliver a title that stands among the best in the genre. Paradox Interactive will publish the game.

Developers showed gameplay footage at the event that highlighted the LEGO visual style across infrastructure and citizen life and emphasized systems for managing utilities and services. Iceflake said customization extends beyond functional buildings to decorative LEGO pieces that let players personalize neighbourhoods.

The game is planned for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. No release date, pricing or launch window were announced at the reveal.

The project pairs Iceflake’s simulation experience with the LEGO Group’s construction elements and Paradox’s publishing of strategy and simulation titles. The teams have described the goal as creating a serious city-building simulation presented with LEGO visuals and creative features.
