Liquid Swords closes after weak Samson sales
Liquid Swords, the studio behind Samson, has closed after weak console sales left it without enough money to continue operating, founder Christofer Sundberg announced Oct. 19.
Liquid Swords released Samson on consoles on Sept. 21. Founder Christofer Sundberg announced the studio’s closure on social media on Oct. 19, citing insufficient console sales.
Console players gave Samson positive feedback, but sales did not generate enough funding to keep the company operating. The game was Liquid Swords’ first and only release.
Liquid Swords had been unable to pay its employees for several months. Workers are expected to seek compensation through a government-backed wage protection system.
A receiver was appointed to look for a buyer for the company, but no buyer was found. Liquid Swords then ceased operations after failing to resolve its financial difficulties.
Sundberg helped establish Avalanche Studios before founding Liquid Swords. He had planned to build a new development team around Samson. The game’s future support and any additional content have not been confirmed.
