Overwatch won’t add new heroes or maps to Stadium

Aaron Keller, Overwatch’s game director, announced in a Director’s Take post that Stadium will not receive new heroes or maps. Stadium launched with Season 16 in April 2025 and has been active for just over a year.

The post published daily player statistics across Overwatch’s modes. Stadium’s ranked and unranked playlists each accounted for about 3% of daily players. Open Queue ranked attracted roughly 19% of daily players and Open Queue unranked about 8%.

Role Queue made up the largest share of activity, estimated at 54% of daily players overall and driven largely by its unranked playlist. Role Queue ranked represented about 37% of daily players. Keller wrote,

Overall, 5v5 has maintained its majority and 6v6 continues to see an increase in popularity. Stadium, meanwhile, has settled into a dedicated, smaller audience.

As a result of those engagement figures, the development team will not add new characters or maps to Stadium. The post noted the team will continue supporting the mode with seasonal balance updates, rank resets and rewards, and that lessons learned from Stadium will inform future development work.

Keller indicated specific characters such as Lifeweaver will not be added to Stadium in the near term. Stadium will remain playable with its existing roster and maps, and ongoing seasonal content and tuning will be tied to competitive and progression systems rather than new character additions or dedicated maps.

Last month, Blizzard released the Nyan Café skins for Overwatch, with two ultra skins at 3,500 Overwatch Coins each and a full bundle priced at 9,900 Coins.
