PS5 Pro Sells Out Across U.S. as GTA 6 Drives Demand

The PlayStation 5 Pro has sold out at major retailers and online stores across the United States in recent days as purchases tied to Grand Theft Auto 6 depleted available stock. Stores and online inventories show out-of-stock notices and limited availability messages for the upgraded console.

Retailers reported that remaining units disappeared within hours of restock alerts. Bundles that paired the PS5 Pro with Grand Theft Auto 6 or with early-access content moved fastest and were among the first listings to sell out after replenishments.

Supply limits contributed to the shortage. The PS5 Pro has been produced in smaller runs than standard PS5 models, and distribution has been concentrated on online preorders and selected retail allocations. Customers checking inventories encountered waitlists, backorder notices and delayed shipping dates.

Secondary-market listings for the PS5 Pro have shown price increases above typical levels seen in recent console launches. Resellers listed units at markups on marketplace sites as consumer demand rose.

Buyers cited the console’s higher performance capacity-higher frame rates, improved graphics and greater stability on large-screen setups-as reasons for choosing the Pro over the base model. Demand was strongest in major metropolitan areas where early GTA 6 promotional activity occurred, though stockouts were reported in smaller markets as well.

Some shoppers used alert services and online buyer communities to track restocks. Retailers implemented automated purchase limits in many cases to limit bulk buying, but those measures did not prevent the rapid sell-through.

Sony and its retail partners have not published a comprehensive timeline for when additional PS5 Pro units will arrive. Stores advised customers to monitor official channels, sign up for notifications and use authorized reseller alerts for the latest inventory and preorder information.
