Stalker 2: Cost of Hope review — fixes and new missions

A review finds Cost of Hope improves performance, adds missions, weapons and enemy variants, and offers steadier frame rates while some platform-specific bugs persist.
A review published this week finds that the Cost of Hope expansion for Stalker 2 builds on post-release fixes and adds new single-player content while reducing several technical issues that affected the original release.
The expansion introduces new narrative beats and side missions that extend the campaign, along with new weapon and enemy variants and several locations that broaden the playable areas. Reviewers tested the expansion on modern PCs and current-generation consoles and reported longer play sessions without the frequent crashes that occurred around the base game’s launch.
Developer GSC Game World applied a series of patches and design updates before the expansion shipped, according to the review. The technical work included changes to memory management, load balancing and some AI routines. Reviewers observed steadier frame rates, fewer major crashes, and reduced texture pop-in in many areas, although performance results varied depending on platform and system configuration.
On gameplay, the expansion is described as tighter in combat encounters, with some improvements to enemy AI that made fights feel less repetitive. Several missions were rewritten with clearer objectives and more structured pacing, and scripted moments were used to direct player attention more consistently than in the original release.
Some issues nevertheless remain. Certain bugs and stability problems appear in specific scenarios, particularly on lower-end hardware.. A small number of missions were judged thin on content, and some environments reuse existing assets rather than presenting wholly new areas. Its length and price may also limit its appeal to players who are not already invested in the game, according to the review.
Players considering a purchase should consult recent patch notes and platform-specific performance reports, the review recommends. It presents Cost of Hope as an expansion that builds on prior fixes and adds content, while noting further updates will likely be needed to address lingering technical and design issues.
