Twitch CEO Predicts GTA 6 Online Will Arrive in 2027
Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, speaking at the Tokyo Game Show, expects Grand Theft Auto VI’s online mode to launch in 2027, about a year after the game’s November single-player release.
At the Tokyo Game Show, Twitch chief Dan Clancy said he expects Grand Theft Auto VI’s online mode to arrive in 2027, roughly a year after the single-player game launches on November 19. He predicted the multiplayer rollout will bring a larger streaming audience than the base-game debut.
Clancy told attendees that Twitch has held extensive discussions with Rockstar Games about the developer’s plans, and those conversations inform his timeline for an online release.
Rockstar has provided limited public detail about any GTA VI online component and has not confirmed timing, features or whether a multiplayer mode will arrive after launch. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has indicated continued support for Grand Theft Auto Online when the next title arrives, and past Rockstar job postings have pointed to ongoing multiplayer work.
Clancy described Grand Theft Auto as an “attention vortex” that he expects will concentrate player focus into January. He used the phrase “next year when they launch multiplayer” to describe the expected additional surge of viewers for streaming platforms.
He also noted that Twitch seeks to avoid scheduling conflicts with other major releases, since a title that concentrates gamer attention can dominate platform viewership.
Clancy framed the 2027 timeline as an expectation based on conversations between Twitch and Rockstar rather than an official release date from the developer or publisher. Publishers, platform partners and players continue to await formal announcements from Rockstar and Take-Two.
