WoW 12.1 lowers housing decor costs, adds bug fixes
Patch 12.1 reduces prices for earnable housing decor, offers a one-time Professions reset and applies gameplay and UI fixes as Blizzard responds to issues in Midnight.
Blizzard will reduce the cost of earnable housing decor, provide a one-time Professions Knowledge reset and deliver multiple bug and user-interface fixes in World of Warcraft patch 12.1. The update targets problems reported since the Midnight expansion launched and aims to improve stability and player experience.
Earnable housing items will require fewer in-game resources, while items sold through the cash shop remain unchanged. The Professions change lets players reset all Knowledge Points one time so crafters can reallocate progression after seeing how systems have unfolded in the expansion.
Game Director Ion Hazzikostas acknowledged problems with the expansion rollout. He said the 12.0.5 update included more bugs than acceptable and pointed to internal process issues where late fixes produced unintended effects that escaped quality assurance. He described a late fix that affected object attachment and broke an elevator in the older Siege of Orgrimmar raid, which contributed to a day-long housing disablement early in the expansion’s life.
Blizzard has issued earlier patches with targeted fixes. Patch 12.0.7 addressed performance drops in Silvermoon City, corrected an area- and auto-looting bug and removed wear-and-tear repair costs from weapons. Patch 12.1 continues that effort with additional bug corrections, including a rare issue that caused a character named Valeera to die in solo instances and an issue that dismounted players while traveling between Zul’Aman and Eversong.
The update brings several UI changes intended to reduce repetitive tasks across multiple characters. It adds an account-wide autoloot option, an option to display map coordinates and a reorganized currencies tab with collapsible menus to reduce clutter.
Hazzikostas described the balance Blizzard seeks between long-term design and reactions to player feedback. He said the professions reset is intended to let players adjust knowing how the system works now, while preserving the long-term differentiation that drives in-game crafting niches: “We want the choices players make to be meaningful and help them differentiate themselves from other crafters,” he said.
Patch 12.1 will also introduce new content, including The Coiled Isle and a Troll-focused questline, plus additional raids, dungeons and smaller solo-instance encounters. Blizzard has not announced an official release date for the update.
