Zelnick: GTA 6’s 27-minute Netflix preview served as tutorial

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said the 27-minute Netflix extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI functioned as an in-game tutorial, introducing players to systems and setup.

Take-Two Interactive chief Strauss Zelnick described the 27-minute extended look for Grand Theft Auto VI, released on Netflix as part of the game’s promotional campaign, as more than a cinematic preview.

The segment combined scripted scenes and playable sequences to demonstrate core mechanics, character interactions and the game’s narrative setup. The presentation illustrated mission flow, controls and how the game’s environment and systems connect.

Zelnick framed the piece as an onboarding tool, saying it ‘also served as a tutorial.’ He added the format aimed to orient new players while giving returning players a clearer sense of the title’s characters and setting.

Take-Two owns Rockstar Games, the studio developing Grand Theft Auto VI. Company leaders presented the Netflix segment to broaden mainstream awareness of the title and to let potential players see how the game plays ahead of launch.

The extended look runs about 27 minutes and was distributed on Netflix as part of the game’s wider promotional push. Take-Two has used several marketing channels for past entries; the streaming preview is an example of using a nontraditional platform to reach viewers outside standard gaming outlets.
