Diablo 5 centers on roving caravan, aims for Spring 2029

At BlizzCon 2026 Blizzard revealed Diablo 5 will center on a roving caravan in a procedurally generated Sanctuary where Diablo has already won. The studio targets Spring 2029.

Blizzard used its BlizzCon 2026 presentation to outline Diablo 5’s setting and production plan. The studio confirmed the game is in full production and set a Spring 2029 release window.

The game places players in a world where Diablo has already won and replaces the series’ traditional static town hub with a roving caravan. The caravan will serve as a mobile base while players travel through a ruined, demon-occupied Sanctuary.

Game Director Joe Shely described the caravan as a “point of light moving through the land,” and said the design shifts the focus from reclaiming territory tile by tile to traveling and growing stronger. Executive Producer Matt Zitterman and Narrative Director Jennifer Brandes Hepler joined a group Q&A to explain how the concept affects core systems.

Diablo 5 will use procedural world generation alongside the caravan system. The team expects procedurally generated areas to feel new on return visits and to support repeated dungeon runs. Shely explained cleared regions can become dangerous again after a time, encouraging players to revisit areas and continue building the caravan’s power.

The development team said it applied lessons from the recent expansion of the previous game that emphasized player agency. Hepler noted community response to that expansion influenced Diablo 5’s narrative approach and validated the decision to put players at the center of the story.

Hepler also discussed post-campaign design, saying the ending should make players feel they achieved something while leaving activities and challenges to pursue afterward. The studio plans to use the time before the 2029 window to expand caravan mechanics and refine procedural systems.

Blizzard’s roadmap through 2029 will provide more detail on how the caravan, procedural overworld and persistent challenges come together in the final release.
