Analysts: Steam Machine sells 12,000–15,000 units weekly

Boiling Steam analysts estimate Steam Machine sales at about 12,000–15,000 units per week based on its rank on Steam’s Global Top Sellers and revenue modelling.

Analysts at Boiling Steam estimate Valve’s Steam Machine is selling about 12,000 to 15,000 units per week during its launch window. The estimate is derived from the device’s placement on Steam’s Global Top Sellers chart and revenue modelling tied to nearby titles.

The Steam Machine currently ranks second on the chart, behind Counter-Strike 2 and ahead of Palworld. Boiling Steam used the typical weekly revenues of those two titles to set an upper and lower bound: Counter-Strike 2 at $19–20 million weekly and Palworld at $7–9 million weekly.

Using that range, the analysts place the Steam Machine’s weekly revenue between $10 million and $18 million. They converted revenue to unit sales using a weighted average price of about $1,154, based on an assumed 65/35 split between a $1,049 base model and a $1,349 2TB model.

That conversion yields a weekly unit range of roughly 8,700 to 15,600 units, with the frequently cited midpoint estimate of about 12,000 to 15,000 units per week. Extrapolated at that pace for a year, the device would sell roughly 600,000 to 750,000 units.

Boiling Steam noted the estimate covers the launch window and flagged that pre-order backfill and early-adopter demand typically inflate initial sales. The analysts identified a likely 20 to 30 percent decline in sales after the initial wave subsides.

Valve does not publish hardware sales figures. In a recent interview, Valve told reporters it will evaluate the Steam Machine “by different metrics” and did not specify what those metrics are. The company described early sales as “rock-solid” but declined to provide concrete sales data.

Analysts cautioned the method carries uncertainty: store rankings and surrounding titles can reflect bundles, regional price differences and short-term promotions, any of which can skew revenue estimates. The Steam Machine’s second-place position on the Top Sellers chart places it in a relatively high-revenue spot on the platform.

Observers note that several hundred thousand units a year would mark a notable return to living-room hardware for Valve. Valve has not disclosed specific targets or the metrics it will use to judge the product’s performance.
