Baldur’s Gate 3 gets true third-person camera mod
Modder Relysia released the True Third-Person Camera mod for Baldur’s Gate 3 on Nexus Mods, adding an over-the-shoulder view with dynamic FOV, smooth crouch transitions and MCM options.
Modder Relysia released the True Third-Person Camera mod for Baldur’s Gate 3 on Nexus Mods earlier this week. The mod offers an over-the-shoulder camera that players can toggle on or off, moving away from the game’s default zoomed-out tactical view toward a closer, action-style perspective.
Relysia based the mod on the Native Camera Tweaks framework created by Ersh. The release adds a polished third-person option and a full Mod Configuration Menu (MCM) for users to change camera parameters. Features include a dynamic field of view that shifts while running, smooth transitions when crouching, and a “fix stuck camera” toggle for occasional edge cases.
The author and users have identified exploration and immersion as the primary uses for the camera. The closer viewpoint places environmental detail and non-player character interactions in tighter focus. The mod does not replace the default camera for tactical combat; players can switch back to the standard view for encounters that require a higher, zoomed-out perspective to plan moves and manage multiple targets.
Installation and configuration are handled through Nexus Mods and the game’s MCM. The settings let users adjust the camera from subtle changes to a pronounced over-the-shoulder angle. The toggle option allows players to compare the new camera with the original during play and revert to the standard setup at any time.
The True Third-Person Camera is one of several community mods that modify Baldur’s Gate 3’s camera and presentation. It provides an alternative viewing option for players who prefer a closer camera during exploration and social interactions while leaving the default tactical view available for combat.
