Soulframe gains faster combat, clearer narrative after TennoCon
Digital Extremes revised Soulframe’s combat, class roles and early story after the TennoCon 2026 Warsongs demo and is testing changes in pre‑alpha Prelude sessions.
Digital Extremes applied combat and narrative updates to Soulframe following the Warsongs demo at TennoCon 2026. The changes are available in the game’s pre‑alpha build and are being evaluated through the continued Prelude testing program, where players provide feedback on balance and pacing.
Combat pacing has shifted from a slower, soulslike approach to faster, action‑oriented movement. Rogues in the Sirin Pact now show increased stealth mobility, mages in the Oscelda Pact have expanded casting options, and Tethren warriors retain more traditional melee roles. The studio has also introduced new specializations that further differentiate playstyles. Early boss encounters such as the Torment Stag have been rebalanced to function as more approachable introductions for new players.
The early tutorial and Prelude content were reworked to create a more cohesive introduction to the world of Alca and its regions. Quest text has been adjusted to use a storybook style that frames objectives in more evocative language. Digital Extremes CEO Steve Sinclair described the Warsongs demo as a spliced portion of a larger quest and noted that the studio is still shaping broader narrative structure.
Changes to shared spaces include higher instance population limits and added non‑player activity in social hubs. The subterranean tavern called the Drippin’ Flagon now shows more concurrent players and visible questing activity. Developers also adjusted color palettes and environmental detail in several areas.
Digital Extremes has expanded the Prelude program to let players return to early areas and report on responsiveness, quest flow and enemy difficulty. Feedback collected from those sessions has led to adjustments in combat responsiveness, quest design and enemy tuning. The company has not announced a release date for Soulframe.
Additional updates observed during testing include an expanded soundtrack and tighter integration of music into key story moments and boss encounters. Boss fights have been retuned to align with musical cues and cinematic beats, and quest descriptions and local flavor text have been revised for clarity and tone.
The studio continues to use phased Prelude tests as its primary method for iterating on systems and narrative ahead of wider access or version 1.0 planning.
