Final Fantasy XIV Beastmaster, Crucible Arrive Sept. 8

At Fanfest Berlin’s Live Letter 93, Final Fantasy XIV announced the limited Beastmaster job and the Crucible of the Unbroken activity, launching with patch 7.56 on Sept. 8.

Final Fantasy XIV revealed the Beastmaster limited job and a companion activity, the Crucible of the Unbroken, during Live Letter 93 at Fanfest Berlin. The new content arrives with patch 7.56 on Sept. 8 and was presented by game director Naoki Yoshida and lead battle content designer Masaki Nakagawa.

To access the Beastmaster players must have a level 50 battle job (Disciple of War or Magic), complete the base 2.0 story quests, and own the Dawntrail expansion. The job is melee DPS that uses an axe and shield. It starts at level 1 with a cap of 50 and is classified as a limited job, which prevents its use in most standard duty content and pairs it with its own activity designed around its mechanics.

Beastmaster gameplay centers on capturing up to 50 different familiars in the field and assigning them to three Battlehorn slots. The active familiar sets four core skill types available to the player. Each familiar provides a unique Tempered Release ability, and players can Borrow up to eight additional abilities tied to familiar types. The job uses separate resource gauges for the character and the familiar and relies on four instinctual skills for the player and one per familiar. Performing instinctual skills in a clockwise sequence creates an intentional combo that grants extra effects; performing them out of sequence yields normal results. As the job levels, players gain Rally and Rallying Cheer to instantly fill gauges and enable chained combos. Each familiar also has a powerful area finisher that removes it from the field when used.

Nakagawa demonstrated the system onstage and showed ability combinations for control and utility. He used a Slime Tempered Release to bind an enemy, a Pugil Borrow ability to exploit the opening, and a Coblyn Borrow to interrupt a Bomb’s self‑destruct. Nakagawa noted he used debug commands to speed parts of the demo and asked the audience to be forgiving because it was his first time playing live onstage.

The Crucible of the Unbroken unlocks at Beastmaster level 30. Players build a run by selecting between ten and 15 familiars plus duty‑specific consumables, or they can accept an auto‑recommended lineup. The mode presents a top‑down board with branching paths and encounter tiles; when combat begins the player brings three familiars into the arena. Consumables and one‑use items are prominent, including healing potions and the Tome of the Impervious, which grants multiple Blink stacks to negate physical hits. Certain chest rewards and encounters grant Beast Gear that persists for the run, such as a Ring of Sacrifice that revives the player once at the cost of losing the current familiar.

Feed items and shops support progression inside the Crucible. Each familiar has a Satiety meter represented by slots that food fills; higher Satiety increases a beast’s strength, and some feeds apply only to specific types. Nakagawa highlighted that familiars with high Satiety can become stronger over time. Players choose treasure rewards and shop purchases to shape how a run unfolds.

Clearing basic boards unlocks higher challenge tiers called First Degree, Second Degree and Third Degree. The onstage demo ran on Second Degree. Yoshida described these tiers as requiring planning and synergy over reflexes. Crucible performance is tracked in seasonal rankings similar to PvP; the first season begins two weeks after patch 7.56 and runs until patch 7.58. The season reward announced onstage is a rainbow‑colored crystal golem mount.

Nakagawa invited players to try the content, encouraging them to level the Beastmaster and its familiars at their own pace and to take on the Crucible challenges. Yoshida reacted with a laugh when Nakagawa admitted he had raised the demo difficulty: “Tell me that in advance — I was worried!” Nakagawa closed by urging, “I want all of you Warriors of Light to take on the challenge and clear it for yourself.”
