GTA 6 Pre-Orders Point to Record Early Revenue

Retail rankings, stock moves and Take-Two’s FY2027 guidance suggest GTA 6 could generate up to $1.5 billion within five months of release.

Rockstar Games has not published official pre-order figures since late June, but retail rankings, stock movements and Take-Two Interactive’s FY2027 guidance point to strong early sales. Take-Two’s filing with the SEC includes GTA 6 in its FY2027 outlook and projects up to $1.5 billion in revenue from the title within about five months after launch.

Retail store rankings and digital storefront placement show GTA 6 at or near the top across platforms. Market participants are using those placement signals, along with publisher guidance, to estimate pre-order and early sales volumes.

Grand Theft Auto V generated roughly $800 million in day-one sales, about $1 billion in three days and sold about 11 million copies on day one when it launched in 2013. Analysts note the console install base is larger now, a higher share of game purchases are digital and the GTA 6 base price is $80, with higher-priced editions available. Those factors increase potential revenue per copy compared with the previous generation.

Some widely circulated figures about billion-dollar pre-order hauls or a dominant share for premium editions have not been independently verified. Take-Two’s SEC filing remains a public reference for the company’s revenue expectations tied to GTA 6.

The distribution model for pre-orders has shifted: many retail pre-orders are for digital codes rather than physical discs, which reduces inventory constraints tied to manufacturing and shipping. Pre-order totals are therefore influenced mainly by consumer demand and console availability.

Rockstar has set a November 19 release date and a preload window beginning November 12. Industry analysts warn server capacity may be tested at launch and recommend that players preload the game when permitted to avoid long day-one downloads.

Analysts’ forecasts based on store rankings, market activity and publisher guidance project that early revenues for GTA 6 could rival or exceed the benchmarks set by its predecessor.
