Mortal Shell 2 progression guide: Fainweald to Mammon

Route from Fainweald to the Ruins of Mammon with beacon locations, corrupted gate priorities, enemy level checks and resource guidance.

Cold Symmetry’s Mortal Shell 2 places players in Fainweald after the tutorial. A new step-by-step guide charts a route through Fainweald into the Ruins of Mammon, noting beacon positions, which corrupted gates to cleanse, enemy level checks and how to spend Ova, Gloom and Glimpse.

The guide starts at Widow’s Overlook, the first beacon reached after fast travel from Marrow Keep. It advises heading south from Widow’s Overlook to face weaker enemies and gain levels. The story path in the southern area includes the Tiel shell and an early miniboss. South of that encounter is the Mushroom Village map extension; activating that beacon establishes a forward base for clearing nearby dungeons or exploring further north.

East of Mushroom Village the guide points to a corrupted gate that opens a fight with Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods. Cleansing corrupted gates awards Ova. Defeating Magdalena grants 26 Ova and returns the player to Marrow Keep, where Ova must be deposited at the syphon to be used for abilities.

After securing the southern area, the guide directs players back to Widow’s Overlook and north into Blackridge Pass. Blackridge features tougher enemies and more dungeons. The guide recommends farming Gloom in these areas to raise Harbinger’s level before advancing to the northern corrupted gate. Clearing that gate and its boss opens a teleporter route to Fainweald’s western side and then east to the Outskirts of Nochte. Players should activate the Outskirts beacon, cleanse the eastern gate there, return to Marrow Keep to bank Ova and take the lift to the roof.

Purchasing Mether’s Breath with deposited Ova unlocks an ability that, when used on the roof, clears the far side of the teleporter and opens the path south into the Ruins of Mammon. The guide recommends reaching at least level 20 before entering Mammon. The Outskirts of Mammon beacon is the usual landing point; common soldiers near that beacon serve as a practical skill check for readiness.

The Ruins of Mammon follow the same pattern as Fainweald: activate beacons, clear areas methodically, push to corrupted gates and defeat the bosses behind them. Mammon contains two corrupted gates. After both are cleared and every shell collected, returning to Marrow Keep triggers the game’s endgame sequence.

On resources, the guide notes Ova is required to unlock Mether’s Breath and must be deposited at Marrow Keep. Gloom functions as experience to level the Harbinger. Glimpse is a limited currency used to buy information and upgrades; the guide recommends spending Glimpse first on upgrades the player needs and delaying purchases of shell locations from the NPC Zhirelle because shell locations remain available later.

For combat, the guide advises picking up and inhabiting shells such as Tiel or Proxima to reduce incoming damage and provide a second chance after a shell breaks. Summoning allies can ease tougher boss fights. Several common enemy groups act as implicit level checks; if patrolling soldiers in a new area pose a significant threat, the guide recommends retreating to farm Gloom and return better prepared.
