PlayStation Network outage leaves users unable to sign in
PlayStation Network experienced a widespread outage on 24 July 2026, blocking sign-ins, Store access and launches of games requiring online verification while Sony had not commented.
The PlayStation Network experienced a widespread outage on 24 July 2026, preventing users in multiple regions from signing into accounts, accessing the PlayStation Store and launching downloaded games that require online verification. Sony’s PlayStation Network status page continued to show services as operational and the company had not issued a public comment at the time of reporting.
Reports of the disruption began around 9 a.m. BST, with thousands of complaints posted to outage trackers and social platforms within the first hour. Players in the United States, the United Kingdom and other territories reported authentication errors, failed purchases and an inability to start titles that perform an online check at launch. Some online features and multiplayer functions were also reported as unavailable for affected users.
The outage affected players attempting to access early access content for Halo: Campaign Evolved, which opened for Premium and Collector’s Edition owners on 23 July. Several purchasers said they were prevented from launching the game because the client requires a network verification step tied to PlayStation Network.
Sony’s official status page continued to list services as available while thousands of individual reports indicated otherwise. Community members reported frustration at the lack of acknowledgement and said they had not seen updates on Sony’s social channels or support pages during the disruption.
Sony did not provide details on the cause of the outage, the number of accounts affected or an estimated time for restoration. Some affected players reported limited play by switching consoles to offline modes where possible; titles that require online verification remained inaccessible.
Users noted the outage in relation to Sony’s announced plan to stop producing physical discs for new PlayStation releases from January 2028, saying network disruptions can temporarily prevent access to purchased digital content. The PlayStation Network has experienced periodic outages in the past, and users continued to monitor support channels and outage trackers for updates.
Until Sony issues an official statement, the scope and root cause of the July 24 disruption remain unclear.
