Remedy skips generative AI for Control Resonant

Remedy did not use generative AI on Control Resonant, saying artists created game content in-house. The action game launches Sept. 24.

Remedy Entertainment confirmed it avoided generative AI during development of Control Resonant. The studio said the decision reflected a preference for content created by its own artists and designers. The action game launches on Sept. 24.

Lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov told reporters the choice was straightforward. “We are creative individuals at Remedy. We’re very much artists and designers, and everybody really cares about making sure that the game is made by us,” he said, and he noted the company values “the creative freedom of the artist to make the art.” Mohov declined to discuss internal production details beyond those comments.

Control Resonant shifts the series from the Oldest House to a warped version of Manhattan while retaining the franchise’s visual and audio signatures: a palette dominated by reds and blacks, the Hiss sound design and crackly live-action FMV used to deliver story fragments.

Remedy expanded enemy variety compared with the original Control. Mohov described a recurring Hiss-infested bus that floats vertically, with passengers clawing from its windows. Those passengers act as weak points; destroying them speeds up defeating the vehicle. The bus can appear inside gravity anomalies and can spawn loose seat fragments that attack like summoned minions.

Mohov said the Hiss threat now extends beyond possessing individuals and granting telekinetic abilities. The force can merge people with vehicles and geometry and can morph the environment. He described a player action where entering a corrupted vehicle can trigger an execution animation that makes it explode from the inside.

Music continues to be part of level design. The Paranatural Manhattan trailer includes an exclusive track, “Manalan Mailla,” written for the game by Finnish singer Vilma Jää. Mohov said the song relates to the game’s story but did not disclose specific plot points. “Manalan Mailla” translates roughly to “the land of Manala,” a name for the underworld in Finnish mythology.

Remedy said the team relied on human-driven creation across enemy design and original music, combining audio and visual elements with gameplay rather than using automated tools. Control Resonant is scheduled for release on Sept. 24.
