Ubisoft commissions Black Flag sand sculpture in Mexican Caribbean
Artist José Sese carved a large circular sand relief combining the Black Flag emblem and Aztec Sun Stone motifs on a Mexican Caribbean beach for the game’s marketing campaign.
Ubisoft commissioned artist José Sese to carve a large circular sand relief on a Mexican Caribbean beach as part of the marketing for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. The game launched on July 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC; Ubisoft reported more than three million copies sold in the first ten days.
The sculpture places the Black Flag skull-and-crossed-swords emblem at its centre within a design inspired by the Aztec Sun Stone. An outer ring bears the franchise creed in Spanish, “Nada es verdad, todo está permitido.” Upper sections of the relief include a carved galleon and other nautical motifs that reference the game’s Caribbean setting.
Photographs shared by Ubisoft show Sese working by hand in daylight, using handheld tools to carve letters, figures and decorative elements directly into the sand. The images include work-in-progress shots and the finished composition, providing visual detail on the scale and technique of large sand-relief work.
Actors in period-accurate Mayan costume and a cosplayer dressed as Edward Kenway appear alongside the finished piece in the staged photographs. Ubisoft posted the images on the franchise’s official social channels as part of the campaign supporting the title’s release.
José Sese is credited on social media under the handle @jossesandarte. The sand sculpture was one element of the broader promotional activity for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.
