Slay the Spire 2 update reworks RNG, adds Workshop
Update 0.107.1 for Slay the Spire 2 is live on the main branch, with a reworked RNG, Steam Workshop support, the Aeonglass boss replacing Doormaker, and an initial Bestiary.
Mega Crit has released Slay the Spire 2 update 0.107.1 to the game’s main branch. The patch replaces the random-number generation system, adds official Steam Workshop support, introduces the Aeonglass boss to replace Doormaker, and supplies an initial Bestiary.
The studio says the RNG rework follows community testing that identified predictable and correlated outcomes in the beta. Programmer Ed Lu wrote: “It turns out that everyone complaining about receiving Debt too often from Neow’s Bones was right. We did, in fact, have some unusual RNG problems.” He described the new implementation as “evenly distributed. Exhibiting no human-detectable correlation. Rest assured that your suffering is now truly random.”
Steam Workshop support expands mod access beyond the game’s integrated mod loader. Mega Crit built the game with modding in mind and previously included a mod loader, but the feature was not promoted while it required refinement. The Workshop lets players subscribe to mods with a single click; the initial interface is basic.
Doormaker has been removed from the main build. Studio co-founder Casey Yano said the boss exceeded the studio’s complexity threshold and that Aeonglass replaces it. Aeonglass hands players Wither cards that deal damage if they remain in hand at the end of a turn; the Wither effects increase in danger as the fight continues.
The Infested Prism encounter has been reworked to taint skill cards so that damage taken increases with each skill played. The change affects how players select and use skills during the fight.
The Bestiary is available in its first form and records models, moves and animations for creatures encountered during runs. Yano noted the team avoided adding a Bestiary to the first game because there was no clear way to tie entries into a larger story; the studio plans to add detailed stats and lore as the game’s narrative expands.
The update also includes class balance adjustments, changes to several relics awarded by start-of-act Ancients, and new artwork, audio and writing. Players should read card and relic text carefully because the patch alters core interactions.
Mega Crit plans to continue testing new ideas on the beta branch while the main build remains at 0.107.1. Steam Workshop support allows modders to publish content that may further change game balance and variety.
