Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis to serve as franchise foundation

Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog say Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will reimagine the original as a standalone foundation for the series. It launches Feb. 12, 2027.

Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog describe Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis as a deeper reimagining of the first Tomb Raider rather than a direct remake. The game is scheduled to launch on Feb. 12, 2027, and will be available for wishlisting on Steam ahead of release.

The studios present Legacy of Atlantis as an entry point for new players and as a foundation for future Tomb Raider projects. The title will sit alongside a separate new game, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, which the teams describe as a fresh adventure rather than a retelling of past stories.

Experience Director Jeff Adams called Legacy of Atlantis “the perfect place to come in and get seated,” adding that the game “provides the foundation of where Tomb Raider is going.” Adams framed the reimagining as a way to reintroduce Lara Croft to both longtime fans and newcomers.

Art Director Arek Tomaszewski said the timing felt appropriate after nearly a decade since the last major release. Tomaszewski noted interest in returning to the series’ earlier style and added that developers felt audience appetite for another Lara Croft experience had grown.

Game Director Raul Siqueira described Legacy of Atlantis as approachable for players unfamiliar with the franchise, calling it a “no homework needed” entry point. He also noted that players who know the series will find nods and Easter eggs woven into the game world.

The team signaled an openness to reimagining other entries in the franchise in a similar format if permitted. Siqueira added that the developers are fans of the series and expressed a desire to continue making Tomb Raider games for as long as they can.

Developers said they will focus on completing Legacy of Atlantis before moving on to future projects. Adams closed by urging careful delivery: “Let’s get this right,” he said, framing the title as a base for subsequent entries.
