Rocket League rebuilding on Unreal Engine 6 in 2027

Psyonix will rebuild Rocket League on Unreal Engine 6 in 2027. Pro players including JSTN and GARRETTG have tested early builds; footage appeared at the 2026 RLCS World Championship.

Psyonix will rebuild Rocket League on Unreal Engine 6, targeting a 2027 release. Professional competitors have been invited to test early builds, and footage of the updated client was shown on the final day of the 2026 Rocket League Championship Series World Championship.

The developer confirmed the project is a full rebuild rather than a simple engine port. Psyonix handed preview builds to top players such as JSTN and GARRETTG to gather feedback on the updated code and visuals. Psyonix plans to issue additional invites for pro testing as development continues.

Rocket League launched in 2015 on Unreal Engine 3 and has remained on that engine through multiple updates and platform releases. The transition to Unreal Engine 6 is the largest engine change for the title and occurs more than a decade after its original release.

Epic Games has added new tools and artificial intelligence features to recent versions of Unreal Engine. Psyonix has not confirmed which Unreal Engine 6 technologies it will adopt or how any new tools will affect graphics, performance or competitive balance. The developer has not detailed which gameplay systems, visual elements or backend features will change.

Psyonix has not provided a firm schedule for public testing or a specific consumer release date beyond the 2027 target year. The RLCS presentation provided one of the first public looks at the rebuilt client; players will need to wait for further announcements about wider testing and the official launch.
